Thermocouple Wires

Extra High Strength Platinum Thermocouple: XXR & XXS

Extra High Strength Platinum Thermocouple XXR & XXS wire, type R and type S, for harsh environments and demanding applications; diameters down to 0.03 mm
Claimed to last 3-5x longer than general platinum thermocouple wire and up to 400x longer than standard thermocouple wire
Platinum leg microalloyed with zirconium to stabilize grain boundaries and prevent bamboo-structure formation
Stress testing
stable operation for 2450 hours at 1400°C under 400 psi tensile load, versus about 6 hours for standard platinum wire
More specifications
Meets IEC 60584-1
2013 class 1 and ASTM E230 standard tolerances, ASTM E230 special tolerances at high temperatures
Less drift and more stable EMF output over 900-hour thermal cycle testing

Thermocouple Wire

Thermocouple wire (duplex type)
two dissimilar metals joined at the sensing point, insulated with PVC, Teflon, glass fiber, silica glass fiber or alumina; color-coded insulation identifies the thermocouple type
Unlike TC extension or compensating cable (usually stranded, only carries the signal to the instrument), thermocouple wire is solid, is used to build sensing probes and forms the sensing point

Extension & Compensation Wire

Thermocouple Extension/Compensating Wire

Thermocouple extension/compensating cable is lead wire that carries the signal from a sensing probe to a temperature instrument
Extension-grade wire is color coded by thermocouple type and matches the thermocouple's EMF over a specific temperature range, extending the signal from the cold junction to the instrument
Lower ambient temperature limit than T/C-grade wire, so not suitable for making high-temperature probes
Extension wire uses the same alloys as the thermocouple; compensating wire uses different alloys producing the same EMF, typically 0 to 200 °C
